Katsuhiro Otomo adapted his own popular manga series into the iconic animated film Akira, which opened the Western floodgates for Japanese anime in the early 1990s. Nearly forty years on, the film is just as overwhelming as it was back then.

The story: built on the ashes of Tokyo, destroyed during World War III, rises Neo-Tokyo: a dark metropolis ruled by rebels and biker gangs. In the utmost secrecy, the government holds three children with extraordinary powers captive. When one of them manages to escape, she gets hit by biker and gang member Tetsuo, who along with his friends becomes entangled in a massive conspiracy.
