Becoming Elephant

Becoming Elephant follows the remarkable story of orphaned elephants at Reteti, Africa's first community-owned elephant sanctuary. In northern Kenya, the young animals are lovingly cared for by Samburu keepers, who act as surrogate parents to help with their recovery and prepare them for a life in the wild. From vulnerable calves to young elephants ready to return to nature: this film offers an intimate look at their growth, development and reintroduction. At the same time, Becoming Elephant shows how the local community, and particularly the inspiring 'milk mamas', play a vital role in modern conservation.
