Sugar

Writer-director Amira Duynhouwer's directorial debut (Hardcore Never Dies) follows mother and hairdresser Chyna as she tries to leave her abusive boyfriend.

Chyna is the neighbourhood's go-to stylist. In the salon she runs with her sisters, she is admired not only for her talent, but also for being the girlfriend of Raoul – the man everyone desires. Behind closed doors, however, the relationship is not what it seems.

When Raoul turns increasingly violent, Chyna grows ever more aware that she will have to break away from everything she's ever known. For her own safety and that of her baby daughter Sugar.
