The notorious seventies horror featuring a chainsaw and a human skin mask. Thanks to a digital restoration overseen by director Tobe Hooper, this now forty-year-old classic looks more timeless than ever.
A minibus travels through the Texas countryside. On board: five friends on their way to the cottage belonging to one of their grandfathers. Then they make the mistake of their lives by picking up a deranged hitchhiker. It's the beginning of a nightmare starring a family of cannibals and an ever-roaring chainsaw.
'Most horrifying film of all time.' 'A sickening, repulsive and tasteless piece of work', read the reactions upon the release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1974. Soon, however, the independently shot and produced film transcended its cult status: Tobe Hooper's spine-chilling nightmare grew into a classic.
Hooper, who passed away at the age of 74, loosely based the film on the life story of deranged killer Ed Gein, who had the nasty habit of skinning his victims and fashioning their skin into masks and drums.
