The Boston Strangler

After three women are strangled in their own homes, the Boston Police Department sets up a special unit to track down the killer. With precious few leads, they start by arresting known criminals, until a chance occurrence sets them on the right trail.

Richard Fleischer's tense crime thriller / police drama is based on the infamous Boston Strangler case from the 1960s. Fleischer and cinematographer Richard Kline are hardly making a documentary here: they use split screens, disorienting pans and plenty of zoom shots to build a sense of paranoia where violence is constantly lurking.
